Description

A whimsical, fluffy cake inspired by Labubu, perfect for themed parties. Easy to make and ideal for creative decorating!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • Gel or liquid food coloring (various colors)
  • Fondant (optional, as needed for ears, teeth, and details)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch cake pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the dry mix and milk, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Pour into your prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
  8. For the buttercream, beat 1 cup softened butter until smooth. Gradually add 2 cups powdered sugar, mixing well. Mix in 2–3 Tbsp milk, a splash of vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
  9. Divide buttercream into bowls for coloring: brown, white, and pink. Tint each portion as desired.
  10. Frost the cake with a crumb coat and freeze for 20 minutes for a smooth finish.
  11. Use a piping bag with grass and round tips for texture and details. Shape Labubu features with colored buttercream and fondant as desired.

Notes

Pro Tip: Add food coloring a little at a time to avoid over-saturating. Freeze cake after crumb coat for easier decorating. For a chocolate version, replace 1/4 cup flour with cocoa powder and add a bit more sugar.
